About Me

MarkDuring my seventh grade year my family sold their Seattle restaurants and we moved to the quaint town of Lake Chelan, Washington.  My parents had the dream of raising my brother and I in a small town.  They purchased a vineyard and by the age of 13 I was operating tractors, sprayers, post hole diggers, and learning to plant grape vines.  By the age of 14, while my Seattle friends were hanging out at the mall, I was supervising harvest work crews, designing irrigation systems, and working 14 hour days.

At the age of 16 I had the opportunity to purchase an established lawn maintenance and landscaping business.  I borrowed six thousand dollars and bought the business which consisted of fourteen private and commercial accounts, a trailer and all the equipment needed to do light landscaping, irrigation projects and lawn mowing.  When I purchased the business it was grossing seven thousand dollars per season.  When I sold the businesses it was grossing thirteen thousand dollars with twenty two accounts. I expanded the business eighty five percent in gross sales!  Owning a business at age sixteen was an incredible experience.  I learned the importance of timeliness, being respectful and listening to customer suggestions.  I used Quicken software to do monthly billing, track expenses, pay sales tax and calculate federal taxes.

Operating my small business gave me an insight and passion for the business world.  I enrolled into the Business and Economic department at Western Washington University.  My courses included accounting, finance, marketing, economics, statistics, human resources and project management.  I graduated in December of 2014 with a degree in Business Management.  I am seeking employment with a company where I can apply my enthusiasm for business.  I would like to obtain a management position where I can leverage my education and past experience to advance a companies profitability and productivity.
